Tintern Abbey is a national icon – still standing in roofless splendour on the banks of the River Wye nearly 500 years since its tragic fall from grace.

Founded in 1131 by Cistercian monks, and later surrendered during Henry VIII's English Reformation, this great abbey is a majestic ruin and is just a 15-minute bus ride away from Chepstow train station.

Find out more about Tintern Abbey and its history on the Cadw website
