Overview

On the Gloucester line, between Newport and Chepstow lies Caldicot station. Serving the small town of Caldicot, the station was opened in 1932, taking over from the private siding that carried freight to and from the nearby iron works.

The town of Caldicot is known for its imposing medieval castle, built in the mid-1100s by Humphrey II de Bohun, the Baron of Trowbridge, and many visitors arrive by train to explore the impressive keep and grey stone walls. Caldicot has many attractions, including coastal walks and waymarked tracks across the wildlife-rich Levels, the beautiful gardens of Dewstow House, and the popular leisure centre, making it well worth a visit.
