Overview

Lying in the picturesque Rhondda Cynon Taf valleys, the village of Treherbert is served by this station. Opened in January 1856, it carried coal from the local collieries at Treherbert, Blaenrhondda, and Blaencwm, beginning passenger services a few years later, in 1863.

Up until this point, the villages in the Upper Rhondda were fairly isolated, with the main trainsport being by horse and cart. In 1906, a tram service was initiated, followed, in the 30s, by buses. These advances transformed the region and provided links to the rest of South Wales.
