Overview

First opened in 1854, Abergavenny station serves the small Bannau Brycheiniog town often called the Gateway to Wales, and like most of designer Charles Liddell's stations, was built in the Italianate style of architecture. Despite its many upgrades, the station still retains the look of the Riviera, which sits perfectly within the landscape of the surrounding wooded hills

With almost half a million passengers passing through its doors every year, Abergavenny's two platforms serve the Welsh Marches Line that runs from Newport to Hereford. The most recent works saw the entire station being given step-free access throughout, thanks to the Department of Transport's Access for All fund.

With all the station improvements, a train ride to this gorgeous town is well worth the money, so if you ever plan on visiting it, make sure you equip yourself with the knowledge of all the fun things to do in Abergavenny.
