Wales and UK train times

Check our train timetables before you travel to avoid any surprises.

We’ll sometimes need to introduce new or temporary timetables when essential works are planned, or if any problems occur on the network. Please check before you travel for any changes to train times and connections with other train operators’ services.

  • Timetable change Sunday 10 December 2023

    • Timetable significant changes December 2023 newtwork map

    • From Sunday 10 December, our train timetables are changing.

    • The December 2023 timetable booklets will be posted online from 1 December 2023.

    • Please check journey plans before you travel for any changes to train times, platform changes and connections with other train operators’ services.

    • Here’s an overview of the most significant changes across our network:

    • North

    • North Wales line key
    • Chester - Liverpool (via Liverpool Airport)

    • An hourly service will be reintroduced in February, returning to its full pre-Covid level.

    • Wrexham - Bidston line

    • A more frequent daytime service (Monday - Saturday) will be introduced with trains with trains departing every 45 minutes.

    • All services will now stop at Hawarden Bridge Station on a request stop basis.

    • Holyhead - Chester - Cardiff

    • The following Monday - Friday services will change to improve service frequency between Shrewsbury and Chester

      • 06:48 Cardiff Central - Holyhead will now depart Cardiff Central at 07:17

      • 11:33 Holyhead - Cardiff Central will now depart Holyhead at 12:33

    • A new 11:45 Holyhead - Chester Sunday service will be introduced to fill a gap in the timetable due to an amended Avanti timetable.

    • Chester - Crewe

    • Some services will depart slightly later to improve connections with services from Llandudno.
       

    • Mid

    • Mid Wales line key
    • Heart of Wales line

    • Some services will be slightly retimed due to operational reasons.

    • Cambrian line

    • A train service will resume between Machynlleth and Pwllheli (from 02 December) following the completion of the Barmouth Bridge works.

    • Some services will be slightly retimed to improve connections between the Aberystwyth service and the Cambrian coast services at Dovey Junction.
       

    • South

    • South Wales line key
    • Ebbw Vale line

    • A new hourly Ebbw Vale - Newport service will be introduced in January. The hourly Ebbw Vale - Cardiff services will be retimed from 10 December in preparation for the launch of the Ebbw Vale - Newport services.

    • Maesteg - Gloucester / Cheltenham

    • Some services will be slightly retimed to improve service performance.

    • Pontypridd - Cardiff

    • The shuttle services will no longer run due to trains being used to support other services.

Refunds for timetable changes

If you’ve already purchased tickets for services affected by changes you’ll be able to use your tickets on alternative TfW rail services. Alternatively, you’ll be able to request a refund by visiting our refunds page.
