Being the largest city in Wales, you won’t be stuck for things to do in Cardiff wherever your interest lies, however most visitors to the area start in the historic heart of the city - Cardiff Castle. Originally built in the 11th century, and added to over the ensuing centuries, continuing as recently as the 1920s with the 4th Marquess of Bute, it is now owned by the City of Cardiff.

Moving on from the castle, this vibrantly cosmopolitan city is rich in culture, both homegrown and further afield. The National Museum Cardiff - part art gallery, part natural history collection, with a wide, eclectic programme of shows and exhibitions, is a must-see, as is Cardiff Cathedral. Also known as The Metropolitan Cathedral Church of St David, this awe inspiring, Pugin designed cathedral is a much-visited iconic part of the city centre.

For the adrenaline junkies, why not try indoor climbing, exhilarating white water racing, or fantastic go karting, whilst for shopaholics, there’s a wide mix of high street names and designers labels in the Queen’s Arcade. If you prefer to seek out the artisan boutiques, Cardiff has plenty to go round. Tiny Victorian arcades and vividly colourful markets are full of one-off pieces, handmade crafts, studio glassware and beautiful silver jewellery. Take your time and relish the atmosphere, before catching the train home.

If performing arts are your thing, head for Cardiff Bay and the instantly recognisable Wales Millennium Centre. Hosting world class entertainment, including musicals, ballet, hip hop, stand up comedy, and a wide variety of workshops and classes, this well worth a visit, along with the recently renamed Millennium Stadium. Renamed Principality Stadium, it’s home of the Welsh rugby union team, and Welsh football. It also hosts boxing and speedway competitions.
