Dinosaur skeletons, mummies in the Egyptology galleries, and relics from Cardiff’s Roman past - explore through the centuries with displays that are fascinating and educational. 

Roald Dahl is one of Cardiff’s world famous sons, and you can follow in his illustrious footsteps around the city. Born in September 1916, the much loved children’s author was baptised in the Norwegian Church, as were his own children. Dahl’s father, Harald, came from Oslo and founded the shipping company Aadnessen & Dahl in 1880. 

Cardiff Castle is another must-see. Standing proud since the 11th century, the stronghold has undergone several redesigns over the years, the last one being for the 3rd Marquis of Bute. One of the richest men in the world, he created a luxurious fairytale in the centre of Cardiff. Sleeping Beauty would be at home in the glory and glamour of the Castle Apartments, and the fabulous Moorish inspired Arab Room is richly decorated with gold leaf and gorgeous murals. 

Retail fans are well catered for with all the big high street names and designer stores. Nestled amongst these, however, are independent boutiques showcasing beautiful gifts and richly coloured bohemian outfits. Why not head to the popular Central Market? This two storey glass roofed collection of fascinating emporiums and artisan stalls is a wonderful place to explore, and has been in business since the 18th century.
